You've probably seen JPI's chart.

But have you seen ours?

 

 


According to our testing, JPI's probe will fail after only 5 hits from a hammer, while EI's will take 20 hits to destroy.  According to our test, EI's probe will last four times longer than JPI's.

 


Do you think our chart is irrelevant?  Maybe it is.  Is JPI's?


How many times does your engine instantly go from 88 degrees F to 1600 degrees F without producing exhaust?  Never? 

JPI's chart shows the response time of a probe in still air instantly going from 88 degrees F to 1600 degrees F.  Here are a couple of major problems with that:

1.  Your engine never instantly goes from 88 degrees F to 1600 degrees F

2.  When your engine is heating up, it is producing exhaust (moving air).  Probes in REAL life are placed in this exhaust stream to measure temperature, which means they are in moving air.  This air flow will minimize the slower response time of a larger, more dependable probe.

3.  According to JPI's chart, EI's probe will never reach full temperature of 1600 degrees F.  This would indicate that we have a PERFECT insulator.  If we actually had the formula for a perfect insulator we'd probably win the Nobel Prize in Physics.

4.  JPI's grounded probe causes jumpy readings in their system, so they recommend you change to a 10 'F resolution.  Compare a 10 'F resolution to our stable 1 'F resolution.  When you make a small mixture change, EI's system will indicate a trend first!

 

Pop Quiz:

Where can you hold your hand longer:

1.  In a 350 'F oven.
2.  In a 275 'F blast of heat from a heat gun.


The correct answer is number 1.

Reason:

Even though the air in the oven is hotter than the blast of heat from the heat gun you cannot hold your hand in front of the blast of 250 'F longer than you can in an oven.  The difference is the moving air.  Air will act as an insulator when it is not moving (just as in JPI's frequent booth demo, which we find to be totally misleading).

This works with cooling also.  How long can you stand outdoors 29 'F on a calm day, versus standing outdoors on a 40 'F day with heavy winds?  You can stand outside comfortably outdoors on a calm day longer because the air around you acts as an insulator.
